***BEAUTY SLEEP PROGRESS REPORT***

Since the presentation on Tuesday I’ve sat down and kind of re-thought my project and what I hope to achieve from it. I think the brainwave sensor isnt the most suitable sensor for me as it’s too intrusive when somebody is trying to get a night’s sleep. It’s not just a case of picking a new sensor unfortunately because I’m still a little unsure as to what kind of content I want the sensor to generate. The motion tracking already creates the lines and various sized circles so thats the movement (and lackof) aspects of the project looked after. I’m hoping to try and decide whether I’ll just create visual content or other media as well by the end of this week.

I’ve spent the last day or so trying to export a jpeg from Flash using PHP and a server. I got a basic prototype working but unfortunately PHP memory limitations have prevented me from working with large images. I’ll have to keep looking and try and find an alternative way of getting it to work for me. A working prototype can be found at the link below anyway:

Here’s a quick list of the progress I’ve made over the weekend:

Weekend Tasks

There’s a couple of things I want to get done over the weekend to get me up to where I want to be for next week. These are:

Sleep Mind-Map

I did a pretty general mind-map of some things related to sleep to see if it could help me generate some new ideas

Sleep

Sleep, its stages and sleep movement is an area I’ve always had a keen interest in and I’ve begun to explore some different ways that various aspects of a persons sleeping patterns could be translated to some kind of digital artwork. Im not too sure where I’m really going with this yet but Im gonna put up some information on sleep patterns, brain signals and things like that to see if it can help trigger some ideas for my project.

Processing, Arduino, Twitter, RFID Project

So far the last week me and Niamh had been working on building a little tool that can check for a variable number of Twitter entries, for a certain topic, depending on what RFID tag you scan on front of the scanner.

We experimented with displaying the entries on screen in a number of different ways, how many entries to return, font size, font colour, alpha & positioning and things like that.

After a lot of tweaking and missing around the tool now displays the latest 100 twitter entries on Chuck Norris, Patrick Stewart, Steven Seagal, Nick Nolte or The Epic Beard Man depending on which one of five RFID tags we scan.

Its kinda just an out-there experiment at the moment but I can see how it could have practical uses, such as scanning a products bar-code to see what people are saying about it online and things like that.

Arduino, RFID Reader, Flash

Tonight I have the Arduino, RFID Reader and some ID cards & am currently exploring the different ways I can have them interact with my swf file such as displaying particular information, jumping to different MovieClips etc.

Arduino, Slide Sensor, Flash

I took home the Arduino, slide sensor and leds & got them communicating with flash to move between frames which could come in handy with my project later on in the year.
